Head Prefects' Welcome

Welcome from our Head Prefects

Melanie M

My name is Melanie and I’m an aspiring solicitor currently studying Politics, Sociology and History. I have attended Langley Park School for Girls for almost 7 years and it's been nothing short of amazing.

This school not only champions the mantra ‘Today’s Learners, Tomorrow’s Leaders’ but exemplifies it. The opportunities here are endless regardless of what subject or pathway you choose to take, they are always here to support you every step of the way. Whether you are more athletic, creative, or academic, there is a space for you. This support is extended to the resources they give us through Firefly where there is an array of different learning materials to support your needs and goals.

Alongside their passion for success, LPGS also recognises the importance of enriching yourself with different experiences and broadening your horizons. This is why we have different societies (Afro Caribbean Society, Debating, Creative Arts etc) and events such as Cultural Day, the Environmental Fashion Show and more! These are highlighted spaces where everyone can come together and celebrate with one another irrespective of what background they are.

Similar to the idea of celebration, there are plenty of ways people can get involved with the school community whether that is creating a society or having a student role such as year council or prefect. Participation is always encouraged here.

LPGS not only helps you with education but they help beyond that by making sure you have the relevant connections, work experience and presence on LinkedIn so that you have solid plans for the future. This wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the stellar careers team we have. They are so welcoming and willing to help with whatever you need.

A massive lesson I’ve learnt from being at LPGS is the power of resilience. It’s not always about succeeding or winning, sometimes it’s about learning from each experience no matter how hard it gets and picking yourself up every time you fall. In my opinion, that’s what makes a person valuable.

Jeremiah A

My name is Jeremiah, and I am a Head Prefect at Langley Park School for Girls. I study English Language & Literature, Politics, and Economics, with the goal of becoming a degree apprentice.

I came from a small secondary school in Croydon, knowing very little about this school or the people in it. It was on the taster day that I first began to feel at home. The large buildings fascinated me, but what really captured my attention were the people. Everyone was so kind, welcoming, and eager to help. That sense of collaboration and teamwork is what truly drew me to LPGS. It feels like we are one big team here. We all have the same goal: success. Whether that’s through A-Levels or vocational courses; we push each other to accomplish that goal because seeing someone else succeed brings you joy and satisfaction. We’re all in this together.

This supportive culture extends into the classroom as well. The teachers are here to help you—they want you to succeed. So don’t hesitate to ask questions or engage in class!

One thing that truly sets LPGS apart is our fantastic careers team: Mrs Hayden and Miss Day. They’re here to help guide you on whatever path you choose. They have valuable connections and can give you the boost you need. A lot of schools see education as the 'be-all and end-all' of sixth form. Don’t get me wrong, education is vital. But at this age, it’s just as important to gain exposure to different work environments, getting hands-on experience through placements or work schemes can be a game changer. When you apply for jobs, plenty of people will have all A*s. But what will set you apart is that you’ve already experienced professional environments, built connections in the industry, and learned what it takes to succeed. That can be the deciding factor between landing your dream job or missing out.

A skill I have managed to further develop is confidence in myself – to know I'm capable of achieving academically but also capable of achieving any goals or dreams I have, this confidence is transferable to when I'm speaking at public events or even at networking events, this is a vital skill and one I know will be properly honed during your time here.
